Overview
In Eastern Canada, the North Atlantic ocean and the St. Lawrence River area played a leading role in the development of coastal societies. Over the centuries, they have witnessed migratory movements and trade, provided a living environment, and were the scene of events that marked the territory and imaginaries, giving rise to distinct cultures and identities. Today, this maritime territory represents a constitutive legacy of our collective memory and national heritage. With mobility and serviced-based economy, there is a loss of memory and a loss of contact with the territory. This interdisciplinary research project will examine this maritime and coastal heritage.
Research benefits
- Document experiences of maritimity and heritage in Eastern Canada;
- Develop a model for sharing maritime heritage research data that can meet the needs of scientists, partners, and the public, and facilitate exchanges and collaborations;
- Stimulate concrete transformative actions based on past experience to improve the resilience of coastal communities;
- Create an inventory of heritage resources and management tools.
