Marina Cuselli, a member of the Ocean Frontier Institute’s (OFI) Ocean Graduate Excellence Network (OGEN), will be a fall cohort participant of the Ocean Bridge Program.
Ocean Bridge is an Ocean Wise initiative that empowers Canadian youth and young professionals to become change makers in their communities and beyond through the lens of oceans and waterway conservation.
Each year, the 20-week program connects 120 youth and young professionals from rural land-locked towns, northern communities, urban coastal cities and elsewhere to form a national cohort of ocean ambassadors.
The program will run from October 2, 2023 to February 16, 2024.
Originally from Verona, in Northern Italy, Cuselli is eager to participate in the experiential program, which will provide opportunities that align with her goals to travel to remote settings in Canadian nature, develop her own ocean action program with the support of mentors, form new and like-minded connections, and enhance her skills in ocean and coastal conservation.
As part of her Ph.D., she is carrying out multidisciplinary work to enhance coastal resilience and mitigate erosion in the Avalon Peninsula on the Island of Ktaqmkuk in Newfoundland and Labrador.
“I look forward to learning more about sharing my research findings successfully and involving citizen science in my work,” says Cuselli. “Public engagement and speaking are important skills to develop, and this program can greatly help with that.”
Cuselli originally heard about this opportunity through OGEN.
“The OFI team always reaches out with new ways to enhance and support your research and personal development goals based on your objectives,” she says.
